What’s New in the OpenForum?

OpenForum, the open-source Java Servlet-based web server, is a developer’s toolkit for creating high-performance, active, and reliable web applications. It is distributed under the GNU General Public License. Its primary goal is to provide a web server based on Java Servlet technology which performs better than the web servers at the time of writing this documentation. To that end, OpenForum comes with a pluggable core framework which can be extended with additional components in a fully documented manner.
This documentation guides you through the steps needed to install and configure OpenForum. It is targeted at people who need to create their own Java web applications and have very little experience with Java or Java Servlets. Other users of OpenForum are also welcome.
OpenForum has been designed from the ground-up as a developer’s toolkit, and it is completely written in Java. It is built as a platform-independent web server, allowing it to run on Windows, Unix and all other operating systems that support the Java language. It comes bundled with Apache, but it has been designed from the start to be backward-compatible with Microsoft’s IIS. Other web servers can be supported through application programming interfaces.
In this documentation, we will explain how to install OpenForum in the Windows environment, and how to configure the web server’s components. This document assumes that you have Java 1.4 or higher and a web browser which supports Java. In addition, it assumes that you have a basic understanding of the Java language, the Java Servlet API, and how to use web browsers.
