neville arrives. he seems nervous to meet ron and harry, and soon after they both arrive at the table, hermione follows ron and harry in to the gryffindor common room. neville apologises to the gryffindors for interrupting the breakfast, and ron introduces him to hermione. ron and harry try to help neville join them but he insists he is fine. however, the trio are puzzled as to why neville is so nervous when he doesn’t appear to know them. ron mentions that neville was probably too shy to talk to them before when they first arrived at hogwarts, which may have been the case, but neville begins to talk to them now and ron seems relieved. he reveals that he is a bit of a know-all, but he was just as nervous to meet hermione as neville was to meet them, and he explains how he fell asleep in his herbology class after lupin roused him with his sorting hat.
the morning passes without any trouble and harry and hermione come down to breakfast at midday. harry leaves to use the bathroom and when he returns, he notices that lavender has been wearing his letter. as he walks into the common room, he notices that lavender is wearing his letter. ron tells harry and hermione that he saw lavender talking to a girl at the table, which was a bit odd as lavender is not the kind of girl who talks to boys, and has always kept to herself. the trio discuss what to do about this, but neville suddenly appears and ron goes to introduce him. neville starts to talk about where he’s from, which is the other side of the country, but before he can get very far with his story, lavender interrupts him and ron tries to calm her down.
the warlock kreacher arrives and tells harry about the news of his and dumbledore’s deaths, as well as dumbledore’s last words. later, voldemort appears and gets a better look at harry. he threatens harry to reveal the truth about his parent’s death, or else. in an attempt to get voldemort to believe him, harry mentions the “dumbledore’s army”, which is the code name for dumbledore’s army, and voldemort agrees to accept it as proof. later, harry witnesses kreacher attempting to talk to voldemort.
after the victory feast, dumbledore announces that he will appoint kreacher as the new caretaker of hogwarts. he also gives harry the hogwarts house cup, which kreacher has kept since the battle of hogwarts. the champions go to their dormitories and change into their hogwarts robes.
harry meets up with ron, neville, and hermione at the gryffindor table and begins to explain what has happened. he explains that they are now under the protection of dumbledore’s army and have proof that voldemort is a liar. harry then reveals he is allowed to return to hogwarts to fight voldemort. ron, neville, and hermione all agree that harry is a hero and they are proud to know him.
harry gets ready for his final exams. mr weasley, ron, hermione, and hagrid arrive at hogwarts just before he leaves. later, when harry gets home for lunch, he is surprised to see percy in his house. the rest of the family also shows up. while they are talking, percy tells them he’s decided to leave hogwarts and go with harry to the tournament instead. harry is shocked, as he assumed that hermione had made up her mind to go as well. however, before he can say anything, the front doorbell rings. as harry goes to answer it, he is surprised to see a strange woman at the door. she introduces herself as mrs weasley, who asks to speak with percy. she tells him that the ministry is still investigating crouch’s disappearance. however, she gives harry a letter, which she says she’ll drop him off at hogsmeade on her way home. harry angrily demands to know what she’s talking about, and she tells him that she’ll leave him if he doesn’t calm down. she goes to get percy, but on the way she tells harry that his parents want to speak to him in the study. at the study, harry is now furious with her for sending him away, but the family tells him that percy will be leaving with him and they won’t force him to stay. harry is at a loss for what to do.
