This book serves as a primary textbook for undergraduate-level accounting courses at MBA and Ph.D. schools. It discusses accounting issues at the individual company level as well as at the international level, based on the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Established in 2011, the College of Business at Saint Louis University offers a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) degree with concentrations in Accounting and Finance, Management, Marketing, and Information Systems. Each program offers opportunities for students to complete the General Education Requirements, as well as three specialized Electives: Accounting, Financial Accounting, and Executive Leadership. Each of these areas is further broken down into core courses, electives, and concentrations.

In the wake of the Financial Crisis of 2008, the accounting profession’s reputation was severely tarnished. Accounting Standards Board (ASB) chairman James Knight called the public’s perception of the accounting profession “dispiriting,” and that the profession was perceived as “willing to provide accounting advice to everyone, including those who would not be able to afford it.” During that time, the profession acknowledged its deficiencies and made efforts to improve them, including updating the IFRS for Business Enterprises. The fundamental idea behind the IFRS for Business Enterprises is to provide the same level of financial reporting as the US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) principles. GAAP is a set of general accounting principles, procedures, and rules adopted by the SEC, the primary regulator of the accounting profession in the United States. The SEC, in turn, abides by a set of rules that the Accounting Standards Board (ASB) of the US Department of the Treasury (DoT) sets, which are referred to as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The IFRS for Business Enterprises have been designed to be a complete replacement for the business-oriented accounting principles of the US GAAP system. The IFRS for Business Enterprises provides a single set of financial reporting standards that apply in any business worldwide.

IMO, this book was easy to understand. The concepts were explained extremely well and the explanations made it easy to understand the difficult elements of IFRS. I noticed that the book had a great balance between learning the accounting standards and learning the interpretation of the standard.
Do not want to learn about how to do the accounting process, because that is well covered in the standard book. The book starts with a brief explanation of how accounting standards work and the key terms used in the IFRS standards. The book then discusses the different types of sources of information, and which are required for a consolidated financial statement. The book then moves to the statement of financial position, and then discusses the elements of the statement of financial position, such as the underlying measurement of assets, operating and investing activities, financial and non-financial assets, liabilities and equity.
I have read the book and it is absolutely excellent – very clear, easy-to-understand explanations of the accounting standards and the principles behind them. This book covers every single part of IFRSs and lays out everything in a clear, simple manner. It is very thorough and covers everything you need to know about IFRSs, and will therefore be useful to anyone looking to grasp IFRSs in a simple and comprehensive manner.
This book is a very accessible beginner’s guide and is a very good tool for anyone just starting their IFRS journey. The book makes the IFRSs easy to understand and easier to grasp. I did enjoy the book and recommend it to anyone who wants to get a feel of IFRSs and how they’re presented in the UK’s accounting standard.
