Section 119 of the Copyright Act also requires a publisher to provide a copy of a motion picture’s copyright notice, known as a “synopsis,” to buyers of film prints. A synopsis is a short summary of the content of the film, often with a screen cap. The synopsis is provided by the film’s copyright owner, but the film copyright notice is listed on the copyright page of the film’s publication. The synopsis is often provided as a form of marketing and advertising and is primarily intended for the screenwriter or author of a film, but it may be written for any film.
Thus, even the synopses themselves are required by law to be on the agent’s list. The user of the copy must make
