At P28, brains were removed and AVP, AVP receptor subtypes and AVP mRNA levels were quantified by RIA, in situ hybridization and Northern blot analysis, respectively. AVP and AVP receptors were increased in the amygdala, pituitary and hypothalamus, relative to controls. Exposure to AMS induced a significant increase in AVP in all three brain regions. AVP receptor density was increased in the amygdala, but not in the pituitary or hypothalamus. These data suggest that maternal separation produces long-lasting increases in AVP and AVP receptor subtypes in the amygdala, an area associated with emotionality. In addition, these changes in AVP and AVP receptors may be related to changes in the antidepressant-like behavioral effect of acute or chronic amitriptyline.Alberta’s first medically assisted dying facility opens Friday
