i had this problem many times before. i was thinking that it was sometin in the keyboard. so, i opened the computer and found out that the sata hard drive is the problem. i think the sata back of the hard drive is broken. but when i put the hard drive into the new computer, the software detected that the hard drive is there and it works, but it just wont boot into osx. i am running from a usb hard drive.
i dont know if anyone can help me. the problem is that if i upgrade the hard drive, it works fine. but is is very risky when you upgrade the hard drive. because, if it failed, it will need be replace with another new hard drive.

i have a toshiba tecra a8 with a pta83e zip (x5k video). i have tried every thing i can think of to make this work. i installed the windows version of nero, and everytime i boot up my computer from the cd, it says booting from /dev/sda not found (usb).
i ran the stock version of nero under windows and it won’t work on this laptop. i even tried capturing the data from the hard drive through my camera and it will only capture 1.5gb of data.
it worked fine before the update to the pta83e. i have tried everything, even using the disk utility to replace the bios etc.. nothing works. the drive will not boot. i have tried the large and small unformatted hard drive and the small formatted one.
