Desperate for better options for mental health care for my 86 yr old aunt. She was recently diagnosed with depressive symptoms and anxiety. In the past had been diagnosed with bipolar 2 1/2 decades ago but there was no treatment available back then. Drs office wants to put her on an anti-depressant. Continue this until out of office hours. We are all out of options. Not that we would change the past, just that we are getting desperate. She can’t function in her home or any place that her daughters or myself are not with her. We are at our wits end. We don’t want to put her in a nursing home but don’t know what to do. Only thing that might be a possibility is a county board of public health facility with 24 hr mental health care as suggested by a friend in Wisconsin. I am not sure what that is but anything would help. If anyone has anything to offer we are all ears.

I have been involved in the care of my Uncle for quite some time and just have to admit I am so worn down that I can’t even be sure when I last saw him. He gets stronger every day and I try to help him but it hurts. Everyday his care becomes even more strenuous and I am just used to putting everything in his hands. I have tried so many times but his age is getting to me. The number of medications he is on has increased and the drugs have not improved his mental status at all. I feel my time has gone and just don’t know how much longer I can stand it. I would love to be able to rest easier knowing that my Aunt is safe in our home. I do not want to see her have to move. I can’t even begin to tell you how much my emotions keep me awake. I can’t be sure when the last time I saw him was and as much as I want to try I know I couldn’t carry it much longer. I am at my wits end at this point as I do not know what to do. My Aunt in her forties has thought my Uncle was being neurotic and really doesn’t have much to go on. I am told she has a herniated disc in her neck and have suggested we have him put in a home with a neck brace. Can you just imagine how that would help but I have learned from his history that once he is on a neck brace the residents of the house see him as weak and under control. This would be a disaster for my Uncle. I really don’t know what to do, can you suggest anything? I am so sorry if I have asked too many questions and if I have offended anyone with my post. I would be so grateful for any suggestions or advice
