The SEM Audio File Embedder application was designed to be a small tool to build SE modules around any WAV / AIFF / AU file to use them in SynthEdit. Theres also another tool available to wrap more than one files into one module.

The SE module is built around the WAV/AIFF/AU format using original WAV / AIFF / AU functions by Andrew Robinson.
The main feature of the SE module was to work with any WAV / AIFF / AU files.
To do that, there was introduced the concept of Audio File Embedder, which was an application developed specially for wrapping any audio files. This program was released in SynthEdit 3.3 and also introduced SynthEdit’s WAV / AIFF / AU function.

To install the extension in your SynthEdit, just go to File –> Extensions –> Install Extensions.

You can create special FXML that shows what modules are included in the module.

This program was created to enable the use of semi-expanded standard modules in the free version of SynthEdit. These modules are faster to load and use a lot of CPU, RAM and Hard Disk space.

SEM Audio File Embedder Features:
– Automatically detects WAV, AIFF and AU files and embeds the audio part of them into a SynthEdit.stm file.
– The audio part is transparent and does not disable the stereo waveform display
– They can be loaded by any version of SExpel, original, Delta or Mac.
– They can be used by any version of SynthEdit or the Csound 3.01 development environment.
– It is a very small tool and works faster than other SynthEdit based audio importers
– They can contain more then one file and have further automatisms for grouping the files and specifying their order (first, second, etc. etc.)
– They can contain multiple modules, which can be used to build combinations of modules (although SynthEdit will automatically embed them if the module is also placed in the same directory).
– It is easy to add new automatisms to the audio import system.
– Import can be done with a button or through the CLK-CMD hotkey in the default key binding of SynthEdit
– All modules are downloaded from the database (default on current directory)
– Only file extension “.stm” or “.stms” is required. Audio files can be placed in any subfolder, if the extension is not set, any file with the extension “.stm” or “.stms” will be treated as a WAV file
– The file can be a stereo, mono, 16bit, 44.1 kHz or 32bit file
– All audio modules are compiled into one.stm file
– Automatically synchronises audio files to the tempo of the module after embedding
– It will be a “native” SE module and does not have the limitations of the otherwise SE modules.

SEM Audio File Embedder Unique Features:
– The audio part of the module is transparent. This means that the audio part will appear under the waveform of a module in the Systhesis Editor. Create an audio file from the WAV file with the standard WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE tags, and use it as a module in SynthEdit. The audio data is packed into a binary file with a .sfw extension.

1.x MB (the WAV file must be smaller than 1.1 MB, but if possible, choose the shortest WAV file)
How to create an audio file from a WAV file:
Open the WAV file in NanoScape.
Select Tools->File->Create audio file…
On the target name file name window, type the extension for your audio file. The extension must be : wav, aiff or au.
Using the file explorer, find the WAV file to save the audio file into the folder where you have previously saved the WAV file to which you want to convert into audio.
Create the audio file and save it.
How to use an audio file as a module in SynthEdit:
Using SynthEdit, click on the module file and select Tools->Module…
In the name field, type the name of the audio file (wav, aiff or au)
In the Channel field, choose the channel used in NanoScape. It can be automatic, left, right, center, side, surround, lower, upper, LR, LU, LF, LU2, LF2, or any number.
Input the desired samplerate, and the WAV file must have a samplerate of 44100 or 48000, or its lowest actual value (for example, 66750, or anything less than this value). If the samplerate is already chosen, the value is included in the file extension (for example, wav44100)
Click on Create Module button.
To modify the audio file, in SynthEdit, right-click on the module, and select Tools->Module->Modify module…
Enter the name of your audio file (wav, aiff or au)
Select Edit module audio file and enter the extension of the audio file (wav, aiff or au)
Click on Ok button.
If the module is not visible, check the “Collapse modules” box.
When you want to un-collapse all of the modules of a module, select Tools->Module->Un-collapse module…
