I’ll be saying it for the rest of my life if I have to.

I’ve played a lot of action RPGs for the last 10 years, but this one is really, really, good.

Expectations. I played nearly all of the beta (sidescrolling, turn-based combat) and the story’s excellent.

I made a character in the name of a ridiculous nickname (“Gildor”), and while I’ve played Vindictus and Lineage 2 as well, Elden Ring feels the most like a tabletop RPG.

I’m rarely compelled to play online, but this game has a great online component.

Multiplayer is neat, but I don’t think it’s essential.

Gameplay. I played Earthbound, so am I suppose to be surprised by Elden Ring’s simple combat design?

Eh. No.

It feels quick and fun, and a couple of hours of exploration will give you just as many challenges as you’ll get from grinding through low-level dungeons.

Narrative. The story is a bit too straightforward for my tastes.

I like the plot twists, it’s creative and original. But the story isn’t presented in any detail, and it’s rather basic.

(Side-note: just because the characters all sound the same, doesn’t mean they’re all the same. At least give each class their own individual flavor).

All the character profiles are filled with nonsense.

I just want to make sure it doesn’t get in the way of the gameplay.
