Why is the time of one HDD slower than its seconds?
I have a hard disk with 320 GB of capacity. The time needed to format it, and the time to copy the data from it, is about 60 seconds.
I copied it to a new disk the other day, which was SATA. However, I was shocked to find out that the time needed to format the new disk is 75 seconds.

There’s a significant difference between a hardware write caching drive and a’software’ write caching disk.
Some SSD/HDD combinations don’t quite offer the optimisations that the manufacturers claim. There’s a lot of engineering, testing and optimisation that goes into the design of the SSD and back-end hardware.

The mean time between failures is not the same as the mean time to failure. A disk of the same brand/model/performance as the one you are copying to may be completely different.

I didn’t quite like the examples, though, and I think they’re not very useful, for the reason of data transfer rates. Let me explain:
I keep all of my personal data on two seperate hard drives, an old one and a new one. These drives are on average, 2.5 years apart. The performance of both is still linear, because they’re still running on the same hard disk controller, and thus the hard disks’ caches are the same, and the read/write rates are the same.
The performance of the new one, however, doesn’t look like it’s linear. I formatted it, and while the normal time to copy data is under one second, it takes around six seconds to read it back and copy it.
I don’t know whether to blame this on the fact that a SATA port is connected to the drive via the PCI bus, or if perhaps the controller on the drive isn’t as good as before. I don’t know if this is even measurable at all.
