Over at the Lightroom community, there’s been a fair amount of in-fighting in the last couple of weeks with regard to the direction that Steve Mydland and Lightroom are taking (indictments of a “pattern” of bad behaviour, to keep it brief). The point I want to make is that Lightroom is indeed an important part of Adobe’s Creative Suite. I say this not because I’m planning to travel coyly out onto the stage under the spotlight, but because I really believe that Photoshop has reached a point where it is ready to retire from a “core” product, and the storied 3rd product is ready for a change of life. Not that everything is rosy, mind you. But it’s a change of directions.
I will use V1.5 as a baseline for all my testing, but will comment on the differences in V1.6. Some of the features that I have not seen addressed are: increasing drill-down capabilities for grid-based adjustments, searching for specific points, text and media on layers, and full 64-bit support. The software is now entirely updated to 64-bit processing. Previously, some modules like the Grid, Guides & Axis, Names, Panels, Profiles, and Preferences worked great, but other modules are still rather slow.
The last update for photo effects has been redesigned to make everything quicker and easier to use. If the previous update wasn’t enough for you, you can expect to see more and more frequent updates to improve the overall experience.
The new version of the app also adds more flexibility to its Photo Effects. It can now add pixel effects to all photos, videos, and collages; remove unwanted elements from the photo; and add different filters to your videos.

I also read books, and even the subscription services. I used them to deepen my knowledge and get to grips with the basics. I joined the Adobe online video library and watched it for hours every day.
Using this you can learn all these things much quicker than I could. Was the Photoshop development process not that good? No, it was really good. I loved it—the vibe, the work environment, going into small groups, the camaraderie, and the resolution of the iteration process. I miss it now.
But back to the future and the new features, which Photoshop is coming out with. I’m not sure if this week’s update is already out, but I know that Photoshop and Lightroom will accept the new file format without needing an update, so that is a great benefit.

A convenient way to explore, sort, and navigate the list of layers is the new Layer Comps tab. DetectPhoto Pro is another new feature we have to mention on our list. It allows you to remove unwanted objects right from your camera screen by finding and isolating them on a photo that has already been taken.
Composite Layers is another new feature which allows you to layer several photos and shape them into whatever composition you want. One of the biggest challenges in image editing is the lighting effect and color correction. For this, you can use Adjustment Layers for light and shadow, which gives you the freedom to change the brightness, contrast, whites, grays and reds of any part of the photo.
Then in Photoshop you have the option to Trim an image that has a gradient, as well as rescale a photo based on the size of a symbol or object you want to create. Also, there is the option to Gaussian blur an image for enhanced creative control.
Filters have also received lots of enhancements for the year of 2020. They have introduced several new filter types including: Vector Filters, Painted Filters, and Texture Filters. Plus, you can also scale the filters and even unlock all the filters by choosing Filter > Enhance > Filter Gallery. These features were introduced in case you want to find a new filter you have not seen on your search, but only if you are new-to-photoshop, then check out the popular collection at the Filter Gallery over at the Photoshop website. The collection is updated every three weeks and most of the filters are free.
