its a very good movie. i had seen it on the big screen. the film made in german. i would like to add that it is also a very good movie. the film is recorded in a very intelligent and humoristic manner.
generally, each film has worked best for me since the film die wilde by werner herzog. the other is the film der untergang downfall.
i am the “die” for the “wilde”. the impostor were only a few boys on the run from the germans on a farm somewhere in the united states. who lived under hostile conditions, and were taken into the foster care system and were indoctrinated that the germans were supposedly in the superior tribe.

i first saw der untergang des dritten reiches (downfall of the third reich) in english at the thirdworldfestival in toronto, canada, in 1987, when i was around 18. it did not seem to attract much attention when it first played, but in subsequent years it won a lot of respect. i saw it in theatres in a regular way in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but i recently saw it again. though never going to the cinema regularly, i saw it on dvd at a time when i was having a hard time finding what i wanted to watch, and it has indeed stood the test of time. the sets, the costumes, the extras. lots of them. the recreated performances, the recreated city shots. the badminton court in the brown house. who knew what hitler and his entourage would have been doing in the recreation? i don’t know.
it is one of those war movies that is as accurate as possible. and at the same time it lets you see what it was like for the germans, as we the viewers are present in that time. if you had to work for germany in that time, didn’t you? no wonder that it was a highly sensitive subject.
