Computer tester saves and generates x86, ppc, m68k, vax, ibm, arm, sparc, unix, macintosh and mips assembly language code in the “example” directory, so you can test, simulate or edit this code.

The complete assembly language code for 32-bit Pentium, Core 2 Duo, Core Duo and Athlon processors is available in the “reference” directory.

Computer tester’s user interface is designed to be easy to use and easy to understand. The code is designed in such way that the user doesn’t need to write a single line of code to test an application. Computer tester is designed to be easy for beginners in assembly, parallel, and multithreading programming. You can either choose to edit the assembly language or to test it with the help of the generated code.

There are two different versions of the source code available for download.

Only the “reference” version runs on Windows and Linux platforms and includes the complete assembly language for the processor.

The “example” version includes only the assembly language code and does not include the manual for using assembly.

You can also build the binary version for any platform, as long as you have perl, make, and gcc installed.

By default computer tester will generate ‘examples/cores/foo’ where ‘foo’ is your processor name.

If you specify an alternate folder, and change the generator’s ‘%d’ to a file globing pattern, then the binary will be built for that folder.

If you use the “-d” switch with the “example” version, it will generate the folder for you.

The generated folder will also be the executable’s location.

For the “reference” version, the location is always ‘./reference’.

The generated executable can be placed wherever you want by changing the location property.

Computer tester is a simple Perl application that demonstrates CPU
performance without setting up a separate Linux system. This gives you
the ability to compare your CPU performance with other peoples’ CPU
performance.

CPU performance of your computer is calculated by performing a loop that
contains 100.000.000 calculations. If it takes your CPU around 1 second to
do this you see 1 in the menu bar of Computer tester. If it takes your
CPU more than one second to do this you see 2 or more in the menu bar of
Computer tester.
The application is extremely fast to load, so the loops are already in
the Perl script and only need to be performed once. Only the calculation
is repeated 100.000.000 times, and the script then uses the calculated
CPU performance to calculate the time it took to perform the loop. You can
calculate the performance of your CPU by reloading the application.
