The Gemulator Explorer application was desigend to be a small free utility that allows a Windows computer to read Atari ST and Apple Macintosh formatted disks. A digital entrepreneur who won a community project contract to help Liverpool’s homeless population has been turfed out of the building he was supposed to provide vital services to.

Kevin Bridge, a long-time community campaigner, who was set to give a free hand at a new digital hub, has now been asked to leave.

His project was due to create a space where people who were homeless, or had left the street because of drugs and drink, could get help with their problems.

But in a statement, City Council Leader Chris Matheson said the project “was found not to be viable”.

He said: “On reviewing the business case of the project, it was identified that the level of funding was insufficient to deliver the service.

“It was therefore decided that it was not viable to continue with the project and in light of this, it was decided to terminate the contract.”

However Mr Bridge has maintained he has delivered a key homeless service to the city, which has now been gutted of vital support.

In a statement, he said: “The plan for a digital hub to be developed at the Maudsley was delivered to me by the City Council.

“I was to make the community centre at 875 Parliament Street my home, to be the headquarters of an organisation I am calling Liverpool Digital Outreach (LDO).

“I was to develop a software platform to enable the public to self-assess their mental and physical health, and to create an e-platform for NHS services to support patients through all their treatment.

“The developers were LSO [Liverpool Street Outreach] and Trinity Collaborative.

“I was provided with all the support I required by the City Council. I was also supported by local business and external experts, including a GP, a psychiatrist, a social worker and local housing, employment and support services.

“In my role, I would have been responsible for setting up the office of Liverpool Digital Outreach (LDO), creating a shared workspace in the 875 Parliament Street community centre, in conjunction with the community and local business, and to develop
