Supported file formats

While AutoCAD LT supports many different file formats, it is intended primarily for use with DWG (Drawing) and DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) files. AutoCAD LT is a free, low-end, general-purpose CAD software application, so users of that product have more flexibility than users of AutoCAD Premium.

AutoCAD LT can read and write DWG and DXF files. DXF files can be converted to or from AutoCAD LT native files (DWG). AutoCAD LT can import DXF, DWG, and PDF files. However, the DXF import functionality can only be used when AutoCAD LT is run as an application, and not when it is run as a service (such as on a Mac or Linux system).

When reading DXF files, AutoCAD LT must be running as an application, whereas when reading DWG files, AutoCAD LT can run as a service.
