Virtually everyone in the theatre was American, and I don’t recall any of the cast ever acknowledging the fact they were from around the world. Oh, they’re not from around the world. Some of them may even be Americans. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t know the story behind “My Favorite Things”, “Do-Re-Mi”, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” or “The Sound of Music” in any language. And I think they’d be interested in knowing how their favourite musical story began.

It was very odd and peculiar. At one point, they all said the words together and then began singing the chorus as one. That made for one heck of a sound. I have to admit, I was hoping they’d start to sing “Do-Re-Mi”, but they didn’t. They started with “The Sound of Music”, which was just as well, because that song starts very slow and builds to a very high tempo.

The title song came just after the first number. It was sung by Lt. Rolfe- who had the lead role in the original Broadway production of the musical- who had played the role of Lt. Krenz in the film version of the musical. And he sang it very good.

Judy Kuhn, one of the original Broadway cast members, had a very good performance as well. I had hoped she’d sing “Edelweiss”, but she sang “My Favorite Things” instead. It was very good.

After that, they sang “Do-Re-Mi” in Italian. I thought they might sing it with a few more stops, but that was the best version I heard. I’ve never heard that
