W32/Agobot-BT tries to connect to a remote IRC server by name to connect to a channel. It then attempts to terminate various processes related to anti-virus and security software (e.g. SWEEP95.EXE, BLACKICE.EXE and ZONEALARM.EXE).

W32/Agobot-BT’s IPComp mode is a three way worm which uses a program delivery method to spread to computers using the Remote Procedure Call vulnerability.
The worm contacts a remote IRC server and joins a specific channel.
It uses a distributed denial of service attack to prevent the virus from being scanned by virus scanning programs.
It attempts to delete files from the filesystem.

This tool has been released in good faith to provide the world with a simple method for disinfecting computers in a network environment. It was written by both myself and Christophe Guillemot, and is being distributed with the normal warning of responsibility to be borne by the user.
In its very simple form, the tool does not change any values in any registry or other global location. Instead, it changes a single key in an existing binary, and then checks to see if that binary was changed. After doing so it terminates the processes that changed the binary and refreshes the values of that key.
This is accomplished by using a binary in the “system32” folder and restarting the computer by deleting the “System.exe” file itself. This resets the key back to its original value, and then terminates any running processes that are associated with the key. This, in turn, resets the values of any other keys that the malicious agent has changed, allowing us to prevent the agent from spreading to other machines on the network.
