The lower-left corner of the Photoshop workspace is a _work canvas_ (Figure 3-1). To start working, press the keyboard combination Ctrl+N (Windows) or Command+N (Mac). To create a realistic game emote in Photoshop, we’ll first draw a vector mask using illustrator. Then we’ll apply the Photoshop effect to create a thick black border and apply filters to create various expressions.

Step 1: Vector Mask

To make a facial emote that we can add text to, we will use an illustrator vector mask. Vector masks are more flexible and intuitive to use than a raster mask.

Open the vector mask in illustrator. This tool is easy to draw and allows us to add any number of different graphic elements to the face. This vector mask could be any shape we want as long as it’s the shape of our emote.

In this illustration, we can drag and drop the green marker from the top bar and add a series of shapes below. By selecting the shape, we can edit all of the properties of that shape and save the image. Once you are satisfied, click on the “Save as SVG” link from the bottom of the tool bar.

Drag and drop the green, black, and red rectangles from the bar below into the green shape we drew above. Do the same to create a second shape to add on the sides of the face.

Save this as an SVG file and open it in Photoshop.

Step 2: Create a Photoshop Effect

Make a new layer in Photoshop, then add a layer mask. Select the rounded rectangle tool from the tool bar.

Click on the thickened black border using the colour picker to select the black colour.

Press and hold the shift key to apply a soft black stroke to the black vector border that’s visible on the black vector mask.

Press the left mouse button to zoom into the top-left corner of the mask.

There is no need to zoom out before you start to paint. This limits the number of pixels that can be painted into the mask, making the painting process much faster.

Keep zooming in and out until you get a nice path. Use the paint bucket tool to fill the path with black.

Using the white colour picker, click on the white part of the vector mask, which is showing the soft rounded border.

Press and hold the shift key to deselect all of the vector masks.

Select the white colour again, then click on the black colour and use the paint bucket tool to fill the round-edge part with white. Do the same on the bottom and

Review: Music and Glory by C. J. Lyons

Two days ago I came across a review of the movie ‘Music and Glory’ online. Although I found it a little interesting, I thought it fair to actually write a review of my own.

First of all, the movie is available online for free viewing. Music and Glory is directed by Academy Award nominee Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine). It features Emma Stone, Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill, Jack Black and Jon Hamm. It is based on the best selling novel, Music and Glory, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Pineda.

The plot of the movie is fairly simple. It centers around two characters – Amanda and her sister Molly – who discover a box containing cassette tapes of music by a music legend. Molly wants to listen to the music, whilst Amanda wants to sell the tapes to a music marketing company.

I won’t give away any more plot points. Instead, I’d like to talk more about the acting, the film-making and the fact that the movie is available online.

The acting of the movie is what all film-goers want to see. Acting shouldn’t be done in the traditional sense but in a way that shows. With this movie, almost everyone gives a fantastic performance.

Emma Stone, Paul Rudd and Jon Hamm are particularly good. Emma Stone plays the role of Amanda, who is a passionate singer and wants to sell the tapes to a music company. Jon Hamm plays Larry (the music legend), who’s been dead for over 30 years. Hamm plays the part of Larry with the same passion he had when he was alive. He has an amazing performance and he portrays Larry like no other actor on the planet. Paul Rudd plays a man who’s spent his entire life looking for what the tapes hold. His entire life has been spent looking for Music and Glory. I absolutely loved the way he played this character.

Without going into detail, the movie-making process is quite fascinating. When you watch a movie, you often think “They could have done this/done that”. This movie showed exactly how different it is to create a music video. They shot and edited the entire film in just seven days. I also loved the fact that they used song lyrics as subtitles in the film.

DNA binding and cleavage activities of the 5-substituted 2-aminobenzoic acid metal complexes.
The crystal and molecular structure of the dinuclear complex [Ni(II)(6-methyl-2-NH(2)Bzca)(2)](2) (2) and the mononuclear complex [Ni(II)(H(2)Bzca)](2)(CH(3)OH) (1) is reported. In complex 1, two crystallographically independent monodentate ligands (H(2)Bzca) derived from the side chain of the 3-amino-5-phenyl-2-methyl-benzoic acid anion (Bzca(3-)) coordinate to the metal ion and form the equatorial plane. The DNA binding activity of the complexes was examined by spectroscopic and calorimetric measurements. The results showed that the complexes can bind to DNA via intercalation with the groove binding preferences. The DNA cleavage activity of the complexes was examined using pBR322 plasmid DNA. The results demonstrated that the Ni(II) complexes were capable of cleaving DNA into single strand breaks (SSBs). It was found that the complexes containing the 5-substituted 2-aminobenzoic acid ligand bind to DNA via groove binding mode.An auctioneer from Chicago has said he has uncovered the real identity of a man who built a secret bunker in a corner of his basement.

John David Brown II, 47, has been charged with hate crimes for suggesting that Barack Obama might be a Muslim terrorist.

An Illinois jury ruled last month that Brown, who runs an auction house, should be held criminally liable for posts on his website that suggested Mr Obama was of Muslim faith.

In a surprise twist, two Chicago police officers testified yesterday that they believed Brown to be the person they arrested after investigating the website.
