Avoiding reloading a page
I have a PHP script that generates a lot of data that is displayed in a table.
Is there a way I can avoid reloading the whole page when the data changes?
I have no problems using jQuery to bind the table contents to my AJAX call and generate a query, but I think there should be a way to somehow do it without jQuery.
I’m not doing this for Google Adsense, which displays a list of impressions and clicks. I’m building a table that would allow a user to add rows or delete them, which requires me to generate new data.
I’ve searched for solutions, and it seems like it should be possible, but I haven’t been able to find anything. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

First, you shouldn’t really be doing a lot of the action on the client. You’re creating a lot of problems for the user by making her to reload the page just to display a list of items she already knows are there.
An easy solution would be to “crowdsource” the problem of generating this data on the server. Set up a script that would fire off every 15 minutes and check for changes on your DB and keep a local cache of the last “top-5” of this data.
