Install:

lcdtest is available from the Fedora repository, and can be installed using RPM.
To install lcdtest into your system:
# yum install lcdtest
# ldconfig -v
The above command will install the latest version of lcdtest (1.0) into /usr/bin.
This version (1.0) doesn’t support the –shell argument which has been added in the latest release of SDL 2.0.
For users who have already installed SDL 2.0, the command:
# rpm -i lcdtest-2.0.0.tar.gz
should do the trick.
Usage:
======
In order to start lcdtest, you should add your test program into the program list. Currently, the following programs are added into the list:
AOL test — tests an additional LCD input/output on the machine
C4 test — tests the correct operation of a computer’s connected CRT display
CRT test — tests the CRT found in many x86-based computer systems
Kl2test — tests a hardware-dependent LCD display by displaying the kl10test image
Pixel test — tests LCD display pixels by displaying pixel test patterns
SDL test — tests an LCD display found on most Zaurus models, most Haiku models, and many PPC-based system.
X test — test for horizontal and vertical X res on your monitor (so it works for the latest X-server)
Snippet test — tests an LCD display by displaying the snippet test image.
Other test programs can be added by the user.
The command:
# lcdtest –shell
will start lcdtest without displaying a window on the screen. It is usually sufficient for testing the basic features of the LCD monitor, such as whether it is working, and testing displays for pixels or frequency/phase on an LCD monitor.
To remove the program from the program list:
# lcdtest –remove program-name

Great app for testing LCDs. I used it to test my LCD before I bought it. It’s pretty cheap, so I bought two. Very nice LCD tester with many options.

First off, I’m very impressed with the application, it’s really simple, just run it and choose the test pattern. That’s all. If I were to do anything to this application, it would be to make the test pattern files exported from this app, available as downloadable patterns. Here’s a short list of the 18 Test Pattern types (as I know of them). This app does pretty much what you’d expect it to do, it’s hard to get an image that’s not at least partially wrong. 4 of the patterns have a black background, there’s no way to clear a test pattern with a black background.
